Legacy of Caring

The Legacy

  • The origins of Bethany Care Society date back to the 1930s when members of the Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church proposed opening a senior citizens residence
  • They wanted to support those in the community who had nowhere to turn
  • Through community fundraising, they raised $10,000 and purchased the Riley Estate in Northwest Calgary
  • The Lutheran Welfare Society (renamed Bethany Care Society in 1992) opened March 3, 1945

Bethany remains a voluntary, not-for-profit organization with a vision that has held strong for over 60 years - recognizing a need in society and addressing it by creating caring communities. Because of this vision, Bethany serves the needs of seniors and persons with disabilities in southern and central Alberta.
