Bethany Care Foundation

Bethany Care Society relies on the generosity of donors to provide vital services and equipment not covered by government funding. All funds raised by the Bethany Care Foundation support the priorities of Bethany Care Society.

Electric Beds and Sensors

Total project:
300 beds and 85 sensors
2007 Fundraising Target: $970,000

Beds at all care centres need to be replaced by 2010 with state-of-the-art electric beds.

New beds and sensors will:

  • Make residents more comfortable
  • Help caregivers and family members provide better care for residents
  • Promote dignity and control for residents
  • Increase safety with night time sensors

Overhead Lifts

Total project:
520 lifts at $5,500 each
2007 Fundraising target:
$550,000

Residents will have less waiting time for care needs, frustration levels will drop and comfort levels will increase once overhead lifts are installed at each care centre.

Overhead lifts will:

  • Reduce staff injuries
  • Save time allowing staff to provide care in other ways
  • Provide comprehensive lift and transfer assistance for all necessary living scenarios like toileting, bathing, bed positioning, etc.

Recently 106 lifts were purchased thanks to the generosity of several donors and government grants.

Pastoral Care

Total Endowment goal:
$ 5 Million – this will ensure that Pastoral Care stays a part of Bethany’s holistic approach to care, forever.
2007 Fundraising Target:
$50,000

Spirituality is a cornerstone in providing holistic quality care and is one of the elements that define Bethany.

Bethany Care Society Chaplains:

  • Are present at all long term care and housing sites
  • Reach across many faith traditions
  • Are members of our care teams
  • Support resident spiritual and religious beliefs and practices

Refurbishment Project

$2 Million

Over 440 people call Bethany Calgary home. We want to make Bethany Calgary more homelike. A donation to this project can make a significant difference in the quality of life for these residents.

Needed upgrades include:

  • New paint, trim, lighting, vanities, baseboards, drapes and basic furniture
  • Some replacement of windows and toilets
  • Complete makeover of several tub rooms
  • Hallways, common areas and nursing stations will also be refurbished

Riverview Village

Total Fundraising Goal:
$1.2 Million

Unprecedented growth, soaring house prices and out-of-control rental hikes are making it more and more difficult to live in Calgary. Bethany Care Society proposes to construct 144 affordable housing units in the residential Calgary community of Dover.

Affordable Housing Marketplace:
Demand for affordable housing for mature adults and seniors in Calgary is 25,300 units

Music Therapy

Total program:
$90,000 per year for three years

Music therapy has been so successful we want to expand it to all of Bethany’s care centres.

 

Music Therapy

  • Provides stimulation and helps with memory recall
  • Is a form of exercise
  • Helps calm and provides mood elevation
  • Is enjoyed by residents and enhances quality of life

Artwork Project

To encourage a homelike environment, we are looking for quality artwork for all of our care centres.

The project

  • To fill a need for quality artwork at all of Bethany’s care centres
  • Each care centre will have a theme that works with their centre and the community in which it is located
