2009 Founders' Bursary Award Winners

Posted on Monday, December 14, 2009

The Bethany Care Society Board of Trustees established the Founders’ Bursary Awards in 1995 to recognize staff through the achievement of their children. Through the program, two $1,500 bursaries are awarded each year to the children of Bethany employees and, over the years, bursaries totaling $39,000 have been awarded to 26 outstanding young people. Funding for the bursaries is provided through Bethany Care Foundation.

The criteria for the Founders’ Bursary Awards are scholastic achievement, outstanding leadership, clear career goals and commitment to the community. Congratulations to this year’s winners, Roy Lee and Maranda Rolfe.

Roy Lee is the son of Christina Tam, who is a Nursing Attendant on Central Point at Bethany Calgary. Roy was an outstanding student in the International Baccalaureate program at St. Mary’s High School in Calgary and contributed significantly to student life. He is also active in an organization dedicated to increasing worldwide awareness of global warming. Roy is pursuing a career in biomedical engineering, and is in the first year of a Bachelor of Applied Science degree at the University of Waterloo, specializing in Nanotechnology Engineering.

Maranda is enrolled the Medical Radiologic Technology program at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), with a goal of becoming an MRI technician. She graduated from Bert Church High School in Airdrie with strong marks and an impressive record of school participation and volunteering in the community including at Bethany Airdrie.
