Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra fills the Bethany Calgary Atrium with Music Therapy

Posted on Monday, December 14, 2009

The full Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) visited Bethany Calgary for a concert on Friday, October 2. For about an hour, the orchestra filled the atrium with the sounds of classical greats such as Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, theme music from Star Trek; and an amazing solo performance from violinist, Renée-Paule Gauthier.

The afternoon concert was in recognition of Bethany’s Music Therapy Program, which promotes  the emotional and physical well-being of residents and clients. This special concert was closed to the public, but staff, friends, families, volunteers and supporters of Bethany Calgary were welcomed. Music Therapy at Bethany is funded through donations received by the Bethany Care Foundation. And, thanks to the work of the Foundation, the CPO was able to visit Bethany Calgary for the second year in a row.

“It was wonderful to see residents, their families and the musicians so engaged in this concert,” said Shirley Philips, Executive Director, Bethany Care Foundation. “We have a great community partnership with the CPO and I am so thankful to them for coming to the care centre and supporting our initiatives.”
