Hats off to the Bethany Calgary Ladies Auxiliary

Posted on Monday, December 14, 2009

After 49 years of dedicated volunteer service, the Bethany Calgary Ladies Auxiliary has decided to dissolve as a registered charity. This group of volunteers would now like to focus their efforts on helping out one-on-one with residents as much as they can.

“Their time and financial contributions have made a real impact on the quality of life for residents at Bethany Calgary,” says Health Miller, Administrator. “We are forever grateful for everything they have done.”

The volunteers in the Auxiliary operate the tuck shop on level 5 and regularly host staff appreciation afternoon teas. Every Christmas they purchase, wrap and deliver a Christmas gift for each resident at the care centre and they keep a record of what each resident would like for a gift. That’s a lot of Christmas gifts – about 6,750 gifts over the past 15 years.

The Auxiliary has also made a number of financial contributions to Bethany Calgary, purchasing electric beds, wheelchairs and other equipment. They are now working on a final project, which is to purchase new bistro-style tables for the Atrium.

“Now that’s what I call Creating Caring Communities,” says Alison Zentner, Coordinator, Volunteer Services at Bethany Calgary. “These volunteers have done a remarkable job over the years and we look forward to their volunteering talents in new roles at Bethany.”
