Bethany Celebrates National Volunteer Week

Posted on Friday, April 16, 2010

We all know that volunteering is great for our communities, and that volunteering makes the world a better place. But, did you know that volunteering can have a positive impact on your life as well?

Build your confidence, meet new friends, learn new skills, create more fun and diversity in your life, boost your career options, gain hands-on experience on how different professions operate, help a friend or relative, make a difference in someone's life, be proud, be challenged, feel good, be an agent of change, and best of all, improve your health! It's true, research shows that volunteering can give us a heightened sense of well being, volunteering can provide a speedier recovery from a lengthy illness and it can help us sleep better.

As we celebrate National Volunteer Week across North America between April 19 and 25, we acknowledge the outstanding contributions of  approximately 750 volunteers throughout Bethany this past year. These volunteers, ranging in age from 10 to 101 years of age have contributed more than 32,000 hours of service in a variety of programs at six care centres, at Corporate Services, in the Housing communities and for Bethany Lifeline. We extend our collective appreciation to every one of these outstanding individuals.

Many of you volunteer in some way at Bethany or in your community. We applaud the time you take to make a difference. Thank you for responding to the challenges you have chosen.
