Once again, Canada, the United States and Mexico are joining together to focus
attention on the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace. North
American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week highlights the importance of
safe and healthy workplaces.
Safety and Health: A Commitment for Life ‐ How Safe Are You? is this year’s theme and reminds us all that safety and health in the workplace is a personal choice as well as an organizational one and one that must be part of everything we do – at work, at home and in the community, throughout the year.
I encourage all staff to celebrate NAOSH Week and to participate in the activities and
observations at your site and to share your awareness of best safety practices with your
co‐workers.
If you’ve never done so before, I also encourage you to consider serving as a member of
your site’s Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) committee or, at the very least, be
aware of the work these committees do on behalf of all employees. I would like to take
this opportunity to personally thank our staff who have previously or are currently
serving or chairing on of our OHS Committees. These committees serve an extremely
important role in ensuring staff have safe worksites, access to the safety information
they need and someone to go to when they have a concern about safety.
I would also like to thank each of you for the commitment you show to keeping our
workplaces as safe as possible. Bethany Care Society is committed to safe, healthy
workplaces and will continue to strive to provide our staff with the resources and
equipment they need to work safely.
