Dear Editor:
RE: More monitoring urged for long-term care facilities (November 23, 2011)
On November 23, 2011, the Calgary Herald published an article titled “More monitoring urged for long-term care facilities,” in which Bethany Care Society was mentioned. While we are not able to disclose specific details, we can categorically state that the facts and accusations contained in this story regarding Bethany Care Society are untrue.
Bethany Care Society welcomes the opportunity to address legitimate concerns related to the delivery of resident care. However, at no time were we contacted regarding the allegations contained in this story – something we would have expected.
Bethany Care Society is a faith-based, voluntary, not-for-profit organization, with over 1,400 employees who are committed to providing quality holistic care for residents. Unsubstantiated news accounts such as this reflect poorly on the quality of news reporting in our community and undermine public confidence in the organizations and individuals committed to providing care and services for those in need of long term care in this province.
