(Airdrie, AB) On April 20, 2011, Bethany Airdrie proudly accepted the 2011 Volunteer Advocate Award presented at the City of Airdrie’s Volunteer Awards dinner.
This award is given to a not-for-profit organization, a volunteer-comprised grassroots committee and/or a community group that has demonstrated community leadership by engaging citizens through volunteerism.
The recipient of this award is chosen based on the following criteria:
- How the group attracts and retains volunteers
- How the group recognizes the contributions of volunteers
- The impact the group has made in the community
- Testimonials detailing how the group has become a successful organization because of the contributions of volunteers
Last year, 155 volunteers donated over 9000 hours to Bethany Airdrie. Volunteers range in age from 12 to 86 years of age and come from all walks of life, as individual community members, churches, charities, service clubs and foundations.
“Bethany Airdrie volunteers provide unselfish caring, patience, compassion and are committed to helping us meet out mission of Creating Caring Communities. We are grateful for that and want to thank all the volunteers past and present, who have supported Bethany Airdrie for all they do and have done, so selflessly, for residents, families and staff of Bethany Airdrie,” says Lise Blanchette, Coordinator, Volunteer Services.
Bethany Care Society has an extensive volunteer recruitment program where they have attracted over 800 volunteers through specific volunteer postings on their website, by word-of-mouth and through their best advocates, the employees and volunteers. Bethany also retains volunteers by regularly thanking them and recognizing them with long service awards for the hours and years of service. In addition, Bethany strengthens policies and processes by incorporating volunteer feedback and strongly involves volunteers in the planning processes.
The volunteer program has had a tremendous impact on the community by engaging members from the community to volunteer which enhances the lives of Bethany’s residents, seniors and persons with developmental disabilities.
