Bethany Sylvan Lake has begun a project to renovate and expand the dining room for the 21 residents of supportive living. Preliminary work on the exterior of the building started this week, and next week crews will move inside to cordon-off part of the dining room, with work on the renovation and expansion scheduled to begin on June 1. This will make the dining room temporarily smaller, but still usable. The project is expected to take approximately eight weeks.
The renovated dining room will improve quality of life for residents by creating more open space in the dining room and by increasing access to tables for staff serving meals and also for residents who require additional space for wheelchairs and walkers.
The cost to renovate and expand the dining room is $160,000, and approximately $97,000 of this amount has been raised through fundraising. Bethany Care Foundation will continue to approach local service clubs, businesses, community organizations and individuals with the opportunity to donate to this very worthy cause.
“We are grateful to be in a community that, for many years, has provided strong support for seniors’ care and Bethany Sylvan Lake,” says Pam Krill, Site Manager, Bethany Sylvan Lake. “We greatly appreciate the donors and other community members who have generously supported the dining room renovation project, which will enhance the environment for residents, families and visitors.”
A faith-based organization founded in 1945, Bethany Care Society is one of Western Canada’s largest voluntary, not-for-profit providers of health, housing and community services for seniors and persons with disabilities. Bethany provides long term care, supportive living and independent seniors’ housing for more than 1,500 residents, clients and tenants in Airdrie, Calgary, Cochrane, Red Deer, Sylvan Lake and High River. As well, Bethany promotes aging in place for over 4,000 Albertans through Bethany Lifeline (operated in partnership with Philips Lifeline) and Adult Day Support programs.
