Time Commitment
As a Hydration Volunteer, you will be required to commit to your volunteer position for at least six months to a year. The time of day is flexible but volunteers should be prepared to commit one to two hours a week.
Position Summary
The Hydration Volunteer helps to meet the clinical needs of residents by helping them increase their fluid intake. As a Hydration Volunteer, you are an important member of the health care team making sure resident fluid levels are met. You will also develop meaningful relationships with residents and it is a great opportunity to socialize.
Reporting to the Coordinator, Volunteer Services and working with Dietary and Health Care Staff, your specific duties will include:

Working with care staff to help hydrate residents

Following instruction from care staff regarding which fluids each resident receives
- Transporting the hydration cart through the unit and offering fluids to residents, picking up cups and cleaning up spills
Qualifications
New volunteers will participate in general volunteer orientation. Specific training for Hydration Volunteers will be provided by a dietician and a resource person on the assigned unit. As a Hydration Volunteer you:
- Are 14 years or older

Can physically push a cart up to 10 pounds and poor fluids into a glass
- Feel comfortable working as a member of the health care team

Are flexible and you will take initiative
