One to One Visitor

Time Commitment
Timing is flexible and a visit may last as long as the volunteer or resident would like. Because of health related concerns residents may not always be able to visit at their scheduled times.  
 
Position Summary
The One-to-One Visitor encourages conversation, friendship and provides one-on-one attention with residents. This is a great opportunity for you to build relationships with seniors in the community, improve your communication skills and your volunteering schedule can be as flexible as you want it to be.
 
Reporting to the Coordinator, Volunteer Services and working with a Social Worker or Care Staff, your specific duties will include:
- Visiting with residents in their room or in an appropriate area in the care centre
- Engaging residents in conversation and communication – verbal and non-verbal
 
Qualifications
New volunteers will participate in general volunteer orientation and the provided Dementia Care Curriculum is recommended. Specific training may be provided by a Social Worker. As a One-to-one Visitor Volunteer you:
- Are 16 years or older
- Are independent, compassionate and reliable
- Are patient
- Have good communication skills
 
A second language is considered an asset
