Recreation Activity Volunteer

Time Commitment
We are looking for Recreation Activity Volunteers to volunteer at least once each week for scheduled recreation programming like bingo, games, entertainment, arts and crafts etc. Some flexibility may be required and there may be additional opportunities to assist with special events.
 
Position Summary
The Recreation Activity Volunteer provides the support needed to help residents participate in group programming in the care centre. This is a great opportunity to develop relationships with residents and to participate in recreation programming.
 
Reporting to the Coordinator, Volunteer Services and working with the Recreation Therapy staff, your specific duties will include:
- Bringing residents to and from the program location 
- Assisting recreation staff with set-up, tear-down, use and maintenance of recreation areas and equipment 
- Working with Recreation Therapy staff to deliver recreation programs that are beneficial and fun for residents.
 
Qualifications
New volunteers will participate in general volunteer orientation and Recreation Department orientation may also be provided. As a Recreation Activity Volunteer you:
- Are 12 years or older
- Are dependable and committed to the position
- Have good interpersonal skills and you are reliable
- Can push wheelchairs
- Can relate will with seniors and persons with disabilities and want to get involved in activities with them
- Have an outgoing and pleasant personality
