The time commitment for this volunteer position is flexible and is dependant on the month’s program schedule.
Position Summary
The Recreation Outing Volunteer helps residents participate and socialize in the community by attending special events or community outings. This is a great opportunity to develop relationships with residents and to participate in recreation programming.
Reporting to the Coordinator, Volunteer Services and working with the Recreation Therapy staff, your specific duties will include:
- Bringing residents to the program location which may include travel on a wheel chair accessible bus and returning residents to their room when the program is complete
- Assisting with lunch and other resident care needs when necessary
- Helping staff make the recreation program as enjoyable and fun as possible
Qualifications
New volunteers will participate in general volunteer orientation and Recreation Department orientation will also be provided. As a Recreation Outing Volunteer you:
- Are 16 years or older
- Are reliable and mature
- Physically fit enough to stand or walk for extended periods of time and you can push wheelchairs
- Can relate will with seniors and persons with disabilities and want to get involved in activities with them
- Have a relaxed and pleasant personality
